Grand Army Plaza Design Competition: A Vine Grows in Brooklyn
Brooklyn, NY
The Vine emerges from Prospect Park, reconnecting Grand Army Plaza, a disconnected and underutilized civic space, through a new network of circulation and landscape features.
Functioning as a flexible vine-like infrastructural system, the Vine changes its nature, form, and materiality as it encounters different urban or landscape conditions. The Vine transforms between bridge, ramp, footpath, and catwalk, carving out new public spaces and points of access. The Vine structure embraces existing territories and encourages new uses between and to Prospect Park, the heart of Grand Army Plaza, the plaza’s buttressing berms of canopy trees, the surrounding subway access points, and peripheral neighborhoods.
